about

A Summers Day - Prologue

Imagine being ten years old again. Schools out and you are lucky enough to have your brother as your best buddy. The lyrics for this song came to mind after a visit via the cell phone with my brother Tom. It was a time when your mom said (or yelled) “Go out and play”! Our house was built on a hill. Below was the lake where we had a dock. If we were lucky, sunfish could be caught for dinner. Neighbor’s homes were near and music like Jazz, Blues, Rock and Roll, and Folk music played on stereos and transistor radios. It was a great time to soak in the summer sun and music.

vs1
Watching clouds wander across the sky
Sun warms my face, bees buzzing by
My Brother with his bamboo pole, put
A worm on his hook for sunfish below
Oak leaves flutter in summer breeze
School’s out - we do as we please

A summers day - Is time for play. - Go out and play!

vs2
Dragonflies float on waves by the shore
Music from our neighbors next door
The rhythm of blues and rock and roll
Moves my body and stirs my soul
Friends drop by for a barbecue
Teams are formed to play horseshoes

A summers day - Is time for play. - Go out and play!

Bridge
This summers day - Let your spirit play
Dance to the tunes. - Your soul knows the moves
This summers day. - will soon - fade away

vs3
Fireflies visit when evening arrives
Tiny blinking lights, delight my eyes
Stars are a wonder in the heavens above
I would fly to the sky and touch each one
Laughing loons across the lake
Make me laugh too, as I fall asleep.

A summers day - Is time for play. - Go out and play!
