After Chemo-Prologue

There is life after cancer surgery and chemotherapy.  It’s not the same life you had before cancer came.  There are “after affects”. After affects can be permanent nerve damage such as neuropathy, and lymphedema, (from lymph nodes being removed during surgery).  Other after affects can also impact other internal organs.  Going through chemotherapy tested my endurance. Pure love from Johnny, family, friends, and coworkers, helped me complete the process.

I had a rare and mostly deadly form of ovarian cancer.  Others I have known had other types of cancer. All types of cancer tests the affected person’s will, endurance, and mental health. The song “After Chemo” is dedicated to those who did not survive, and offers inspiration to those of us who are still here to live in the moment.  Half of the proceeds from this song will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

lyrics

V1
It’s Three in the morning - here I am
Up with pain in my feet and hands
A shot of vodka in my hot chocolate
All alone with an oxycodone

V2
More sleep is what I want
Side affects stay to haunt
One long scar from a cut remains
Cancer removed with much pain

Chorus
After Chemo - I must move on
Former life is now gone

V3
Two more scars also tell
Where Chemo entered during this hell
Rounds of Chemo are now gone
But this battle is far from done

V4
Like a soldier with fatigue
I fight a fear that is unseen
Days are lived with a spirit so strong
A shadow passes wide and long

Chorus
After Chemo - I must move on
Former life is now gone

V5
I wish I could be some place warm
Lie on a beach and fear no harm
Just hear the rush of rolling waves
Wash away all scars and pain

V6
But for now are sleepless nights
There is no rest - resume the fight
Return to work - pay the bills
No time off - cannot be ill

After Chemo - I must move on
Former life is now gone

V7
God knows what’s in my heart
I want to live and not depart
I love this life and I will
I’ll learn to live in the now
