about

Jill - Prologue

This song gives a glimpse of a friendship that began in childhood and kept going over the years. I loved every single letter I received from Jill as she traversed the globe as an educator, and when she stayed for a time in Wisconsin to finish raising her three children. We both are grandmothers now, and have enjoyed years of friendship through letters, phone conversations, and meeting up when we were both in Minnesota. Now there is social media. Over the years we have made other close friendships. Yet I am blessed to still have a connection with a dear friend from my childhood.

lyrics

Lyrics by Jacqueline Cates
vs1
As I read your letter, your voice came through
What is said about friends is so true
It’s a gift to have and be a friend
A sister by choice to the end

It’s a gift to have and be a friend
A sister by choice to the end
v2
We survived Catholic school
Rebelled against non-sensical rules
I would be an artist , a writer too
Marine biology, you thought to do

chorus
It’s a gift to have Jill as a friend
A sister by choice to the end

v3
Unleashed energy moved us through
High school days and boyfriends too
We solved our problems on our walks
With thoughtful options and heartfelt talks

Then so quickly there came a day
It was time to go our separate ways
You went on to college, I became a mom
Our youthful days were now gone

v4
Husbands and children filled our days
Demands of work and bills to pay
Letters from you, a voice through the years
Sharing together laughter and tears

Chorus
